Adult Beetlejuice CostumeBeetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice. Those words have been heard in many homes and spoken by many people wearing adult Beetlejuice costumes since the movie’s release in 1988. It was a dark comedy that was directed by Tim Burton and Beetlejuice worked his way into the hearts of the world pretty quickly.

The plot though pretty simple was entertaining and had people visiting the theatres and buying the movie in no time at all. That year many adult Beetlejuice costumes showed up on Halloween and the trend of Beetlejuice at Halloween had begun.

The movie is about a young couple who decide to spend their vacation restoring the old house they had just bought.

Alas they are killed in an accident on the way there when the woman swerves to miss hitting a dog. The kicker is they have no idea that they are dead in the beginning.

Through some not so brilliant clues they figure it out just as a new family moves into their precious home. In the end they call upon Beetlejuice to rid themselves of their pest. The plan backfires when Beetlejuice decides he wants to marry the living inhabitants of the houses daughter Lydia. Since Lydia can see the ghosts she’s not too thrilled with this idea.

What follows is a darkly comical look at how the couple and Lydia outwit Beetlejuice and in the end remain friends and live in peace in the house the couple loves so much. The movie prompted many Lydia costumes as well as adult Beetlejuice costumes over the years and many people expected a sequel that never came about.

In reality the movie was not actually intended to be a comedy and certainly wasn’t intended for the slew of kids who enjoy it today. The original storyline was much more violent. The couples wreck was very graphic and the scenes of the movie would have certainly been disturbing to most people. There would have been everything from rape to exorcism in the movie if it had not been changed drastically during a rewrite. Then I’m sure the adult Beetlejuice costumes would have been much different. The movie probably would not have been as well received and certainly would not be the classic it is today.

Since the story was rewritten Beetlejuice took on more of a comical nature with the adult Beetlejuice costume being more funny than scary. The costume consists of a black and white pinstripe suit and jacket with a dickie. They are loose and very comfortable. Add the really scary Beetlejuice mask then ask a friend to dress up as Lydia and you will be the life (or the afterlife) of whatever Halloween party you decide to attend this Halloween season.

However, make sure that you don’t get to carried away and chant Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice three times. You never know, you might very well get more than you bargained for from the other side. Have fun this Halloween with your adult Beetlejuice costume but also beware!
